California counties sue Tesla for allegedly mishandling hazardous waste



A brand new lawsuit accuses Tesla Inc. of repeatedly mishandling hazardous waste at its services in California.

In a lawsuit filed Tuesday in San Joaquin County (Calif.) Superior Courtroom, the district attorneys of 25 California counties — together with Los Angeles, San Francisco and Alameda, which is house to Tesla’s Fremont manufacturing manufacturing unit — accused the electric-vehicle maker of improperly dealing with, transporting and disposing hazardous supplies together with oil, lead acid batteries, antifreeze and diesel gasoline at as many as 101 websites throughout the state.

has for years violated California’s environmental legal guidelines, and are in search of an injunction forcing Tesla to correctly eliminate its waste in addition to civil penalties, which could possibly be as excessive as $70,000 per violation per day, in accordance with Reuters, which first reported the lawsuit Wednesday.

In 2019, Tesla settled with the U.S. Environmental Safety Company over hazardous waste violations at its Fremont manufacturing unit, and in 2022 the corporate settled separate Clear Air Act violations with the EPA over its Fremont facility.

Tesla, which dissolved its media relations workforce in 2020, didn’t reply to a request for remark.
